ACIC facilitates access to social services tailored to the needs of Afghan community.

Afghan Empowerment Committee (AEC), who oversees the social services of the community, is committed to working together with Afghan families to empower their lives by improving their social, spiritual, mental, and physical wellbeing.

ACIC`s social services include:

Settlement Services

Information, guidance and referrals on following settlement topics:

 

  • Canadian Citizenship (adults & minors), Permanent Resident card, Canadian travel document for non-citizens’ applications

  • Seniors’ social & government benefits

  • Subsidized child care and housing

  • Ontario Works

  • Employment services

  • Volunteering and mentorship

  • Canada Child Tax Benefits

  • Community Legal Clinics

  • Other social, economic & government services based on your needs

 

Mental Health & Addiction Services

Case management, counselling, and education

  • Connecting to appropriate services including counselling, psychotherapy and social services in English and Farsi.

  • Completing referrals

  • Non-clinical short-term counselling for individuals with addiction issues and mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, stress, and anger management

  • Mental health and addiction information sessions

  • Education on maintaining and developing psychological wellbeing as well as common addiction and mental health issues and their treatments

  • Interpretation services while attending mental health professionals

 

Spiritual Consultation

  • Linking to credible sources

  • Connecting to field experts

  • Islamic discussion forum

  • Providing spiritual support

  • Raising awareness about religious and spiritual events

  • Assisting with Islamic research

  • Clarifying misconceptions about religion

 

Recreational Services

  • Encouraging healthy and happy lifestyle while observing cultural and religious values

  • Connecting the community with recreational activities available in local community centres

  • Developing regular recreational activities for the community members at the ACIC and other facilities for different genders and ages


Health Services

We help navigate families through the health care system.

 

Seniors

  • Supporting Afghan seniors in both Farsi and English languages to stay active, healthy, and independent through creating exercise groups, recreational programs, trips, and information counselling sessions on a healthy lifestyle

  • Connecting seniors to resources available, including home care and health care services while utilizing available funds

 

Women and Children

  • Providing health care services and resources to support and empower women and families through informational counselling and workshops

 

Health Care Funding

  • Assisting in accessing health care and funds including the Healthy Smiles Ontario (HSO) program, Trillium Drug Program (TDP) and Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP).
